 A Note From a Parent

IN SEPTEMBER 2007 I WAS FEELING .......

Stuck because our local resources had all been exhausted & nothing had helped!
* Overwhelmed because I was unable to get my son back on track!
* Hurt by the raw emotions and rebellion of my son!
* Lost in the bewildering maze of out-of-home placement options I found all over the Internet!

The power hierarchy in our family had been flipped, so that I as a parent was no longer in charge.  My son was making bad decisions and putting his life at risk.  He was slamming shut all doors of opportunity that I tried to provide while getting him help at home.  It was impossible to find anything locally and I had to open the door to clinical residential placement.

Dore and I exchanged many emails and phone calls.  She was always available for me.

Shortly after my son arrived at his program, Dore had a trip planned and took the time to go see my son and spend time with him.  Dore has been a great help and reassurance.

She specializes in helping families just like ours ... maybe just like yours.

UPDATE March 25, 2009

Thought I would catch you up.  He is doing great.  He has has joined the Army National Guard. He leaves for basic training the end of May. He will not be done with his training until Christmas.

Then in January, he plans to attend either Auburn or University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). His main reason for attending UAH is due to the climbing facility. He has joined a gym with an indoor climbing wall. He spends most of his time there and has made some friends. He also has a part time job at the vets. He enjoys working with the animals. Seems to be doing well there.

He is also doing good in school.

So, the other day I received a call from the vice principal. She indicated it was a good phone call - boy was I relieved!

She told me a teacher had written him up for being respectful and courteous to another student. Thanks again for all the help!
